Night sea trout fishing is currently superb. The total rod catch so far is 123 fish (118 off the rivers at Lifton) to 5lb, mostly caught at night. Interestingly, the majority of the fish are being caught on smaller flies (size 8 and 10), rather than the usual size 4 patterns fished in July. Surface lures are also working very well. The smaller school peal have arrived in numbers, which will provide some great sport throughout July and August. We strongly urge anyone who hasn't yet tried night sea trout fishing to give it a go - it's surely the pinnacle of British fly fishing.
Recent anglers have enjoyed some brilliant trout fishing, with 464 brown trout recorded on the hotel waters last month. With low water in the rivers now, fishing has become trickier, but they are still being caught.
We are now taking bookings for our 2009 courses, which will include two weekend courses in September for those wishing to start salmon fly fishing.
